Way back in Homeschool 1.0, we sat down and put together a statement on our reasons for homeschooling and our goals for our children’s future education. Just for grins, I’m going to post those here. As we are evaluating a seismic change in our homeschool, it’s a great time to revisit and evaluate how well we are meeting up with that reasoning and how we’re progressing on those goals. Who knows, maybe we’ll find that they are in need of revision…
Our reasons for homeschooling:
- We desire for our children to have a distinctively Christian education in which the Gospel of Christ is the chief cornerstone.
- We believe that we have God given responsibility to guide the education and character training for our children.
- We desire to have maximum one-on-one interaction with our children in early character formative years, so that we may best “train up our child in the way he should go.”
- We believe that home schooling will provide us with the best opportunity to guide, pace, and challenge each of our children in their particular strengths and weaknesses.
- We desire to have our children’s education and character training woven into the fabric of our family life.
- We believe that home schooling in the early years gives us the maximum ability to both guard our children from evil influences and prepare our children to engage our culture for Christ.
- We believe that homeschooling will give us the maximum opportunity to amplify the importance of involvement in our local church.
- Homeschooling is an opportunity to experience God’s sanctifying grace in our lives, challenging us to depend on Christ and earnestly seek wisdom from God for the tasks at hand.
