Continuing a review of our Homeschool 1.0 charter…
Our goals for our children’s future education:
- We desire for our children to know, understand, and apply the truth of the Gospel in their lives as they see the Gospel modeled in our family life and church life as well as our curriculum.
- We desire for our children to have the best spiritual foundation, the best character training, and the best education that we can provide.
- We desire not to compartmentalize our children’s education. i.e. to the isolation of that education from character, spiritual development, calling and leading of the Lord, and the context of the local church.
- We desire to prepare our children for excellent service “as unto the Lord” in whatever their vocational calling may be.
- We desire to provide an education that gives them the option for secondary education or trade education.
- We desire to provide an education for our children that maximizes their particular giftings.
- We believe that through the wisdom that our Lord provides to us, our pastors, and our local church oversight, we will be able to discern for each of our children what types of future educational opportunities (co-op, tutors, etc.) will best serve our children.
…and there you go. Our original homeschool charter. We also had a long bit about “socialization,” but I’ll save that for a future blogging rant.
Looking back over it, there are definitely some gaps to fill in and some adjustments to make, but it is very helpful to have something on paper before us to keep the majors on our mind in this process.
